Our system is based on a vast network of experienced Finnish educators who work as our trainers. We pride ourselves on setting up our clients for success in their teacher training efforts and emphasize the idea of carefully listening to the needs of our clients and tailoring our training accordingly. Below you will find descriptions of courses we would like to use as a starting point for building a successful online teacher training programme for you.

  • Module 1: Introduction to Finnish Pedagogy

The module starts with going through the theoretical background of Finnish pedagogical practises and the foundations of the Finnish curriculum. Theory is then taken into practice by working through the main cornerstones of Finnish pedagogy:

  • Module 2: Assessment

This module talks about assessment and how it makes sense to move away from relying solely on summative assessment, and rather emphasizing continuous formative assessment. Assessment is most effective when it guides students towards self reflection and learning metacognition. These ideals are accompanied with examples and practices that can immediately be taken into action in the classroom..

  • Module 3: Class management

Knowing your group and what makes them work the way they do is the basis of all teaching and learning. This module gives practical tools for testing and keeping a record of variables and characteristics of individual students as well as social aspects that matter when taking control of a group. With Finnish pedagogical tradition this is done so that students are made an active part of forming the structures and rules that keep the class manageable. In the module, tried and true practical methods are given that teacher trainees can put into action right away.

  • Module 4: Special Education

This module explores individual special circumstances that affect the learning process, from AD/HD and autism to dyslexia and dyscalculia. Furthermore, documentation and organisation of the three-stage Finnish support system is explored and practical ways to implement it will be given.

  • Module 5: Teaching online: Tools, pedagogy and practical issues

COVID-19 took the world world hostage in 2020. Then again, online learning has took a huge leap in Finland and all over the world. These experiences along with all the tools that are tried and true, will be shared and taught in this module. There’s a huge difference between teaching face-to-face or teaching through a screen. There are organisational things that can be done at the school level as well as things that an individual teacher can do. The module will be taught by an experienced educator that can base the knowledge given on empirical findings and personal experience.

  • Module 6: Effective Differentiation

When you have a group of students to teach, it is always the case that there is a huge variety in ability. How can you make sure the high achievers get enough challenges while at the same time being able to help those that are slower in the most effective way? It is equally challenging to know the levels of each student and how to keep track of their progress. These problems will be looked at covering the educational theory behind things as well as putting the theory into action in the classroom

  • Module 7: Subject Didactics

How to teach math, science and English? Different subject didactics will be covered as needed by Finnish trained and experienced subject specialists.

  • Module 8: Guidance Councelling

“A key task of guidance and counselling is to support students’ growth and development in a way that enables them to promote their social maturity and capacity to study and to develop knowledge and skills required in life planning.

Furthermore, guidance and counselling connect the school to society and the working life. Guidance and counselling promote fairness, equity, equality and participation, and prevent exclusion from education and working life.”

In this module you will learn what Guidance councelling means in practical terms and how you can establish such standards in your school.

Training is arranged as modules of 10 x 60min online lectures by an experienced and qualified Finnish education expert. All lecture materials along with individual and interactive tasks will be available in a virtual learning environment. The lecturer will be available for questions during the time frame of the module. The topics of the modules will be tailored according to the needs of the customer but will heavily rely on the Finnish education tradition and expertise.
